Bessie Jane Hemp

Mrs. Bessie Jane Hemp, age 86 of Frederick passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick. She was the wife of the late Arlington Edwin Hemp who passed away on August 10, 1957. Born on October 2, 1925 in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lester Clinton and Nellie Catherine (Castle) Zimmerman.

Mrs. Hemp was a graduate of Frederick High School in class 1942. Bessie worked for Jacobson's Department Store for 21 years. She was employed as a secretary for an additional 8 years with Real Estate Agents. She also sold Avon products for eleven years. She was a life long member of Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church on Ballenger Creek Pike.

Mrs. Hemp is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her two sisters Hazel V. Shafer and Julia C. Zimmerman.

Friends will be received on Friday, November 4, 2011 from 7 to 9 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10 AM. The Rev. Marina C. Flores will officiate. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas, Kenneth and Ruth Ellen Easterday, Michael Bowers, and Daniel and Joseph Shafer. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church, 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703.
