James E. Herrmann, Jr.

James E. Herrmann Jr., known as Pop Jim of Urbana died on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, of complications from cancer. He was born May 1, 1926 in Baltimore, Md. He was 84 yrs old. Jim was the son of the late James E. Sr. and Mary E Boulden Herrmann. He is survived by his current wife Charlotte Rosencrantz Herrmann of Urbana and one biological daughter, Crystal Herrmann Warner of Gettysburg, Pa and her husband Greg and their two sons Christian and Sheldon. He is also survived by six children from his twenty-four year marriage to Virginia (Ginny Lee) Palmer Coleman Herrmann who died in 1992. Those children are Martha Palmer Fender and husband Carson of Fla., Mary Kay Palmer Ramey and husband Pat of SC, Norman Palmer and wife Sandy of V A, Steve Palmer of WV A, Chris Palmer Martin and Jim of AL, and Earle Coleman and wife Sharon of Walkersville, Md. And a special family member/friend of the family Ann King Palmer of Thurmont Md. His Grandchildren are Danny, Ester, Angela, Johnny, Brandon, Molly, Lee, Stephen, Amy, Kenny, Elizabeth, Allison, Alethia, James IV, Jusenda, Christian, and Sheldon. His Great Grandchildren Danielle, Heather, Jonathan, Sadie, Lillyen, Donavan, Jasmine, Sabrina, Zachery, Olivia, Trynity. Mr. Herrmann shared in the lives of 9 children, seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son James E Herrmann III who passed in 2007, Michael Palmer 2002, and a grandson Matthew Coleman 2000. Mr. Herrmann enjoyed a very full life. He was a very patriotic man having served his country well in World War II in the US Army. He served overseas in several areas and was distinguished with many awards. He served in the 63rd Infantry Division (Blood and Fire). He was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Presidential Unit Citation for the 7th Army Shield, and he received his Airborne Jump Badge and several Meritorious Service Awards while fighting occupied troops in Germany in three major campaigns.

He was also a member of The American Legion Post 11, Amvets WV38, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 5, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3065, and the 63rd Division Association. Mr. Herrmann was a man in construction, building many beautiful homes in the MD and VA area. He also helped with construction with the Anacostia Bridge. He was employed for many years with Holiday Tyler Printing Company as an in house maintenance supervisor. He was a family man, what else with all those kids, but later in life always enjoyed being in his 5th wheel camper and traveling cross-country with Ginny and his time at the river in Falling Waters, WV. He also enjoyed his time spent with Charlotte at the Country Gentlemen Farm in Urbana with the peacocks, horses, and goats and other small animals. Mr. Herrmann had two children Jimmy and Crystal, when he married Virginia (Harding) Palmer Colman in 1968 and she had seven kids Pop Jim (as he was called by some) stayed busy raising nine kids, six of which were still at home at the time. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home 106 E. Church Street, in Frederick . Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, September 19, 2010, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Garden of Veterans II in Frederick. Internment will be with military honors.
