Eleanor Shorb Hershey

Mrs. Eleanor Shorb Hershey, 75, of Gaithersburg, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born July 14, 1934, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Earl Geisbert and Mary Virginia (Wilson) Shorb. Eleanor graduated from Gaithersburg High School, class of 1952. During her life, she became famous for her home-baked pies at Hershey's Restaurant, the family's business in Washington Grove, where she worked for many years. She was an exceptional seamstress and dressmaker, and enjoyed making crafts for others. What she will be most remembered for was her dedication and love for all her children and grandchildren and for being a true lady. Eleanor loved being outside and took great pride in her beautiful lawn and gardens. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She also taught herself to play the piano and played beautifully. She is survived by her five children, Deborah Hershey Sperberg of Carlsbad, Calif., David Earl Hershey of Annapolis, Karen Mackey-Brunzell of Frederick, Kathleen Hershey White of Monrovia and Thomas Palmer Hershey Jr. of Clarksburg. She is the grandmother of nine and the great-grandmother of one. She is additionally survived by the father of her children and great friend, Thomas Palmer Hershey Sr. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Gordon (Buddy) Shorb, Dorothy Henderson, Glenn (Buzzy) Shorb and Earle Shorb.
