Mrs. Gwendolyn Likely Hobbs, 86, of Walkersville, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Northampton Manor Health Care Center, Frederick. She was the wife of the late Melvin Richard Hobbs.
Born July 28, 1924 in Jarrettsville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Robert Homer and Ida Mae Clary Likely.
Gwendolyn worked as a Research Scientist at National Institutes of Health for many years. After raising her son, she worked as an editorial proofreader for Congressional Information Services in Bethesda.
She loved her family and her grandchildren, collecting antiques, her beloved cocker spaniel, and throughout her life, was always generously helping others.
Gwendolyn is survived by one son, Richard Melvin Hobbs and his wife, Linda Kay Hobbs; and four grandchildren, Mick Mathers, Jennifer Mathers, Laura Kay Hobbs, and Steven Richard Hobbs, all of Frederick.
She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy O'Neill.
Services will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.
