George Joseph Hogan, Jr.

Mr. George Joseph "Stock" Hogan, Jr., 80, of Frederick, died on Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Kline Hospice House. He was the loving husband of Irene Elizabeth Hogan. They were married for 56 years. Born in Frederick, on June 20, 1930, he was a son of the late George Joseph, Sr., and Beatrice Naomi Hildebrand Hogan. Mr. Hogan proudly served his country during the Korean War, in the United States Air Force, in 34th Radio Squadron. After his time serving in the military, he worked in Washington, DC, for several years as a mason, until going into his own business, Hogan and Sons Construction. Then for 11 years, he worked as a Frederick County Building Inspector. After retiring from the County, he worked as a driver for McHenry Auto Parts, in delivery. Mr. Hogan was a member of the Frederick Elks Lodge, # 684, for several years he was a judge in masonry for the Frederick County Builders Olympics. He enjoyed gardening, wood working, traveling and watching Nascar Racing. He had a great love of going to the airport and watching planes. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Debbie E. McMurry and husband Phil, of Mass., and Cathy L. Sherman and husband Mark, of Frederick, six grandchildren, John J. Hogan, Reid T. Messinger, Audrey E. Messinger, Anna L. Sherman, Laurel E. Sherman, and Andrew A. Sherman, and one great granddaughter, Enyle L. Thomas, also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by special friends, Al Loweth, Chris Lyons and Charles Geisbert. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Joseph Hogan, a granddaughter, Adrienne Marie Hogan and a brother, William J. Hogan. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, October 8, 2010, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 9, 2010, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Albert K. Lane III, will officiate. Interment will be at a later time in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the, Robert J.
