Robert Edward Kennedy

Mr. Robert Edward Kennedy, 88, of Frederick, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Golden Living Center, Frederick. He was the husband of Mrs. Alice Kennedy, his wife of 67 years. Born Aug. 17, 1921, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Frank Edward and Anna Poole Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Early on, he worked for the Ox Fibre Brush Co.. Later, he worked 29 years with the Frederick Trading Co. Mr. Kennedy was a lifelong member of Francis Scott Key American Legion, Post 11, Frederick. In addition to being a past commander, he had served as chairman of the baseball committee, on the bingo committee and held other offices. In his earlier years, Mr. Kennedy played semi-pro football, as well as softball. He also volunteered as a referee and umpire for Midget and Little League organizations. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Robert Allen Kennedy of Frederick and V. Kevin Kennedy of Frederick and his fianc?e, Libby Plumer, of Brunswick; grandchildren, Robert Scott Kennedy and wife, Shari, of Warrenton, Va., and Kristie D. Rinehardt and husband, Carlos, of Frederick; great-grandchildren, Haley, Jack and Nicholas Kennedy of Virginia, and Ky and Kai Rinehardt of Frederick; his siblings, William A. Kennedy and wife, Carrie, of Frederick, and Kathryn Best of Hagerstown; and sisters-in-law, May Kennedy of Frederick and Julia Kennedy of Thurmont. Besides his parents, Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by brothers John F. and Joseph S. "Brick" Kennedy. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 12, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
