Ellis Robert Keyser

Mr. Ellis Robert Keyser, 80, of Frederick, died June 18, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Jacqueline Kanode Keyser for 58 years. Born on Jan. 29, 1930, in Yellow Springs, he was the son of the late Raymond Ira Keyser and Lenora Harley Keyser. In his early teen years, Mr. Keyser worked on nearby farms. At 18, he began working at Fort Detrick. Soon after, he began his lifelong career working for his brother, Austin, drilling wells for Keyser-Garver Well Drilling Inc., working until his retirement at age 72. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Robert W. (Bob) Keyser and his wife, Robin, of Mount Airy, Allan B. Keyser and his wife, Ellen, of Jefferson, Larry J. Keyser and his wife, Pat, of Bartonsville, Lori Ann Smith and her husband, William (Bo), of Frederick, Janice Calhoun and her husband, Bryan, of Hazleton, Pa., and Angie Hahn and her husband, Steve, of Sabillasville, as well as 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ray Keyser and his wife, Lucille; and sisters, Jane Morgan and Thelma Hartsock; sisters-in-law, Peggy Keyser, Joann Keyser, Ester Keyser, LuAnn Keyser, Sarah Vaughn, Jane Marshall and Joan Hahn; brother-in-law, Kenneth Kanode; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Bernard Keyser, Melvin Keyser, Austin Keyser and his wife, Dorotha, Marcus Keyser and his wife, Faye, Kenneth Keyser, Barry Keyser and Max Keyser. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Friends may also call from 1 p.m. until funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Gosnell officiating. Interment will be in Lewistown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert (Bob) Keyser, Allan Keyser, Larry Keyser Jr., Christan Norris, Seth Keyser, Bryan Calhoun, Steve Hahn and William (Bo) Smith.
