Ann Kershaw Kurtz

Miss Ann Kershaw Kurtz, 80, of Frederick, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy. Born Nov. 4, 1929, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Jennie Kershaw Kurtz. She worked for the United States government with the CIA. Ann was a volunteer at St. Catherine's Nursing Home in Emmitsburg. She was a devout member of the St. John's community, including giving communion at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her niece, Julie Solt, and husband, Barry, of Frederick; a grandniece, Devon Murray of Frederick; a first cousin, Angela Obringer of Morgantown, W.Va.; a brother-in-law, Robert Stevenson of Damascus; and dearest friend, Mary Gormley of Potomac. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Kurtz Stevenson; her cousin, Carmen Madrid; and her nieces, Mary Stevenson O'Connell and Melissa Stevenson Murray. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, from St. John's Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick. Monsignor Richard J. Murphy will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring.
