Mr. Jack Thomas Linton, 82, of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, while surrounded by family at the Northampton Manor Nursing Center. He was the husband of Betty Mae Thomas Linton, his wife of 62 years. Born in Frederick on September 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Russell "Brownie" Herbert and Edith Marie Brandenburg Linton. Mr. Linton was a 1944 graduate of Frederick High School and had attended college for a year, before entering the United States Navy. Mr. Linton served from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946 and had been assigned to the USS Rockbridge and later the USS Aventinus, both in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a longtime member of Grace United Church of Christ, Frederick, where he served as superintendent, as a deacon and was always active with the Church Consistory. Mr. Linton was an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance, for over 37 years. Following retirement Mr. Linton enjoyed volunteering in the community and was active with the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary "Wings" for many years; and later an active volunteer with the Alan P. Linton, Jr Emergency Shelter, which was established in honor of his grandson, who died in the Sept 11th bombing in New York City. He and his wife enjoyed traveling for many years and since1972 they have maintained the Holdcraft Obituary Files published in the Frederick News Post, which they updated, catalogued and sorted, until his illness in June 2010. In more recent years, Jack has enjoyed farming and mowing around the former Thomas family farm on Ballenger Creek Pike. Jack, known for his smile and mild demeanor was often found talking and meeting people throughout the community and was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to all he would meet in this life. He is survived by three sons, Alan "Pat" Patrick Linton & wife, Sharon Moss Linton, of Frederick, Jay Thomas Linton & wife, Vicki Wiles Linton, of Hagerstown, and Ron Curtis Linton & wife, Isobel Margaret Linton, of Warrenton, VA; seven grandchildren, Laura Renee Anspach and husband David, Scott Patrick Linton, Jason Thomas Linton and wife Dana, Joy Christine Essmyer and husband Neil, Samuel Alexander Linton, Jack Thomas Linton, and Fiona Marie Linton; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin David and William David Anspach, Jacob Thomas Linton, Jeffrey Thomas Linton, Jay Thomas "JJ" Linton and Salem Micah Essmyer. He is also remembered by two cousins, Glenn Brandenburg and wife Shigeho, of Warrenton; and Shirley Green Crampton and husband, Keefer, of Frederick. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Alan Patrick Linton, Jr. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Sunday, August 15 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, August 16 from Grace United Church of Christ, 25 East Second Street, Frederick. His pastor, the Rev. Dr. Joseph Foster, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Grace United Church of Christ, 25 East Second Street, Frederick, or to the Alan P.
