Larry J. Loveland

Larry James Loveland, 69, of New Market died at home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was born April 28, 1942, in Wooster, Ohio. He was the son of the late Lloyd Niles and Mildred Sweeney Loveland.

He was a member of the Wooster High School Class of 1960, and enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17.

On September 28, 1963, he and Edith Ann Parsons were married at Creston United Methodist Church in Creston, Ohio.

Larry was employed by the United States Government at the National Bureau of Standards (now NIST) for 36 years, his career culminating as head of the telecommunications office. Following retirement from federal service, he was a school bus driver for Frederick County Public Schools, Devilbiss Bus Service, and Testerman Bus Service, driving for field trips and sports teams.

He was a life member of the New Market District Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, the Washington and Lee Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association. Larry was an active volunteer firefighter and frequently a driver on fire calls. He was also a member of the Glen W. Eyler Post #262, American Legion and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). Larry attended Mt. Carmel and New Market United Methodist Churches, where he served on the Board of Trustees. Larry's hobbies included motorcycling, hunting, walking and gardening.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd, of Wooster, Ohio, and mother, Mildred, of New Market, MD. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Edith, his loving daughters, Peggy and her husband Paul Bradley Goebel of Frederick, MD, Lorri Jane Loveland of Hagerstown, MD and his treasured grandchildren, Bradley James Loveland Goebel and Katrina Riley Goebel of Frederick, MD. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Carafelli, of Owls Head, Maine, and one nephew, Richard Carafelli, also of Owls Head, Maine.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 13 at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick. Pastor Scott Clawson, will officiate.
