David Lyons

Mr. David Lyons David Lyons, 82, of Mt Airy died Wednesday September 1st at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick. He was the husband of Veronica M. Lyons whom he was married to for 60 years. Born November 24, 1927 in Kinrosshire, Scotland. He was the son of the late William and Jean Lyons. He was raised in the village of Largo, Fyfe County, Scotland, home of Robinson Crusoe (Alexander Selkirk). After completing school he served a seven year apprenticeship with the Earl Of Balcarres, Largo,Scotland, as a gardener. He is a veteran of WWII serving with the Royal Air Force. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1970 to be the commercial accounts manager for Gustin Gardens of Gaithersburg. He founded and was CEO of J & L Landscaping of Rockville, specializing in large commercial and governmental landscaping projects throughout the Washington metro area. He served on the board of directors of the American Landscape Contractors Association and the Landscape Contractors of Metropolitan Washington. He was also a partner in the Powder Keg a gun shop dealing in Antique and modem firearms in Frederick Md. After retiring he took photography and became a real estate photographer for the multiple listing service, for many years. He was a former member of the Frederick evening Sertoma club. He particularly liked to travel, waterfowl hunt and work_ in his garden. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Michael and his wife Alice May Lyons of Mountain dale, Alastair Lyons of Mt Airy, Grandchildren Petrina Grimes of Mountaindale, John Lyons and wife Stephanie of Walkersville. Great Grandchildren Samantha Grimes, Danelle and Katlin Bare and Mayson Lyons. Brothers John Lyons of Alva, Clackmannanshire, Scotland and Rev. William Lyons, Kinglassie, Fyfe, Scotland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews located in Scotland, England, Australia and Canada. He was preceded in death by sisters, Rebina Brunton, Mary Cameron, Jean Wishart, Mina Barrey; brothers Joseph Lyons, Archibald Lyons, all of Scotland and daughter in law, Wendy Lyons, Mt Airy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2nd, at 10:00 AM, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 West Church Street, Frederick. Rev. Thomas Claggett will officiate. The family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Walkersville Vol. Rescue Co #24. P.O.
