Thelma Crum Mantz

Mrs. Thelma Crum Mantz, 94, of Frederick and current resident of Homewood Retirement Center at Crumland Farms, died Sunday, June 12, 2011. She was the wife of the late Edward Haugh Mantz, her husband of 64 years. Thelma was born October 25, 1916, in Mount Pleasant, Maryland; and was the daughter of the late Millard E. and Clara S. Crum, Sr.

Thelma was a devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church joining in 1931. She was a past president and district officer of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Chancel choir for over 50 years. She enjoyed singing with her father and played the piano for the Leaders Class for many years. She was a 1933 graduate of Frederick High School and studied voice at Hood College.

Thelma is survived by her sister-in-law Joann G. Crum of Walkersville and a number of nieces and nephews, Stephen E. Crum and wife Donna, David M. Crum and wife Barbara, Alan B. Crum and wife Susan, Shirley Crum, Melissa Miller and husband Brian, Jesse Crum and Crystal Crum; and great-nieces and nephews, Meghan, Rachel, Sarah, Jason, Katie, Andrew, Kyle, Caitlin, Austin, their spouses and children.

Thelma was preceded in death by her brother Millard E. "Jack" Crum, Jr.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 16 from 10-11 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. Second Street, Frederick, followed by a funeral service immediately at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Harry C. Cole officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Meadows Unit at Homewood Retirement Center for the love, care, and support they provided Thelma during her stay there.
