Violet Hardy Mayernik

Violet Veronica Hardy Mayernik died peacefully on July 19 at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, Maryland where she has lived since its opening in 2000. She was, for over 50 years, the beloved wife of Dr. John Joseph Mayernik who predeceased her in 1997.

Mrs. Mayernik was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on May 6, 1915 to Verona Kovacs Hardy and Geza Hardy. She was a graduate of St. Ladislaus School and St. Peters High School. Her career included working as a bookkeeper at the family business Hardy Tobacco and at the New Brunswick City Hall. She was blessed with a lovely singing voice and was featured on a local radio station WCTC with the Kara Brothers Orchestra. While living in New Brunswick, she was a devoted parishioner at St. Ladislaus Church and also frequently attended daily mass at St. Peters Church. Since her move to Frederick, she has faithfully attended St Katharine Drexel Church.

Family, friends and the attentive staff at Homewood will recall her charming smile, cheerful manner and sense of style. She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Hardy Mayernik, and his wife Patricia Anne, of Frederick. Her granddaughter Elizabeth Catherine Smith and her husband Robert Smith of Brooklyn, NY along with her great-grandson Sky Christian Mayernik, Frederick and her grandson John Robert Mayernik of Syracuse, NY will miss her greatly. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Hardy and his wife Mary, her sister Grace Medvecky and her husband Basil. Her brother Dr. Geza Robert Hardy and his wife Patricia and her brother Edward Hardy and his wife Joy survive her. She is also survived by six nieces, three nephews and their families.

Visitation will be at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick from 5 to 7 PM on July 23. Visitation will also be held at Gowen Funeral Home, 9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on July 25, followed by a funeral mass at St. Ladislaus Church, 215 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Peters Cemetery, New Brunswick. A memorial mass will be held in the chapel at Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick at 10:30 AM on August 22, Father Keith Boisvert officiating.
