Mr. Robert "Bob" Mitchell Morton, 60, of Frederick, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at his residence. He was the husband for 39 years of Belinda Sansbury Morton. Born on Dec. 12, 1949, in Washington, he was the son of June Evelyn Morton and James Harrod Morton. Bob retired after working 40 years in the federal government, working primarily in the Census Bureau. He served 10 years in the Naval Reserves as an aerographer's mate traveling all over the world. Bob was honored with the privilege of running the Olympic Torch for the Winter 2002 games, receiving the torch from Madeline Albright in Washington. An avid cyclist, he rode the C&O Canal many times with his best friend, ultimately riding the TransAmerican trail to Colorado Springs, Colo. In the words of one of his granddaughters, "He was a great man!" In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Tammy Nation and husband, Justin, Connie Frere and husband, Rick, and Colleen Hudimac and husband, Mark. He was the grandfather of Alianna and Cadence Nation, Emily, Megan and Samantha Frere. He is additionally survived by his three brothers, James Harrod Morton Jr., Kenneth David Morton and Kyle Collier Morton. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main St., Walkersville, where a memorial service will follow starting at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow.
