Erma "Lucille" Murphy, 81, of Ijamsville, died Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Gene Francis Murphy, who passed away in 1992. They were married on April 24, 1954.
Born April 29, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Erma Virginia Wachter Rhoderick.
Mrs. Murphy was a farmer's wife and homemaker for most of her life. She graduated from Frederick High School, class of 1948. She was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, the Frederick County Farm Bureau and Ijamsville Neighbor Farm Bureau group.
She is survived by her six children, Ronald Wayne Murphy and wife, Sharon, of Ijamsville; Charles Eugene Murphy and wife, Mary, of Union Bridge; Joyce Elaine Fogle, and husband, Robert, of Ijamsville; Lisa Virginia Gaver and husband, Michael, of New Market; Steven Bruce Murphy and friend, Julie Ray, of Ijamsville; and Ricky Francis Murphy and wife, Kellie, of Ijamsville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Wendy, Chad and Lindsey Murphy; Stacy Fogle Godon and husband, Phil; Bobby Fogle; Laura Gaver and fiance', Brian House; Gregory Gaver; Paul Murphy and wife, Katie; Amber and Garrett Murphy; and Dalton and Amanda Ray; and one great-grandson, Brayden Godon.
Mrs. Murphy also is survived by two brothers, Arthur G. Rhoderick and wife, Nancy, of Hagerstown; and Paul E. Rhoderick, and wife, Mary, of Middletown; three sisters, Dorothy Harbaugh of Woodsboro; Betty Putman and husband, Randolph, of Martinsburg; and Anna Ruth Kuhn and husband, John, of Middletown; sisters-in-law, Lois K. Rhoderick, Jenny Rhoderick, Courtney O'Conner, and Ann Murphy; and brothers-in-law, Casper Murphy and Rockne Murphy and wife, Lillian; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Scott N. Murphy; two brothers, Harry F. Rhoderick and Charles W. Rhoderick; sister, Helen V. Frey and husband, Lester; and in-laws, Bruce Harbaugh, Merhle Murphy and wife Mildred, Harry Murphy, Thomas O'Connor, Wilfred (Billy) Murphy and wife Mary Edith, Dorothy Bell Cunningham and husband Marion, Mary Alice Thompson and husband Richard, and Ruth Murphy; and parents-in-law, Charles and Mamie Murphy.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. Officiating will be Father Michael J. Jendrek.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church at the above address.
