Mary Edith Murphy

Mary Edith Murphy, 77, of Sharpsburg, died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at her home. She was the wife of the late Wilfred C. Murphy, Sr. Born on July 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arnold S. Price and Frances H. Nicholson Price. Mrs. Murphy was a practical nurse prior to meeting her husband. Upon her marriage, she became a farmers wife, doing anything she could to help around the farm. She especially enjoyed sewing, ceramics, quilting and cooking. Her most treasured thing of all was her family. She raised 4 wonderful children with her husband until his untimely death in 1981. Whenever she had a disagreement with him, she would flick him on the ear to set him straight. He was the love of her life and she missed him terribly, and they are now reunited. She is survived by children Connie Wagner-Francus of Munroe Falls, OH and her husband, the late Joseph B. Francus, Ph.D; Linda Mead and husband Lewis of North Salem, NY; Wilfred C. (Bill) Murphy, Jr. of Sharpsburg and Arnold W. Murphy and wife Kristy of Sharpsburg as well as Spanky Marie, her Jack Russell Terrier; grandchildren Conley Wagner, Jennie Mead McMullin and husband Chris; Charles Mead; Tyler and Hailey Murphy and sisters Mildred Smith and her daughter Kay Belter of Virgina and Virginia Williams and her son Douglas Staub also of Virginia. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Casper Murphy and Rockne Murphy and his wife Lillian; sisters-in-law Courtney OConner, Lucille Murphy and Ann Murphy. She also leaves behind friends, Sylvia Catron of Capon Bridge, West Virginia and Suzie Henderson of Hagerstown, who will miss her dearly as well as numerous amounts of other extended family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by parents-in-law Charles Murphy and Mamie Murphy; brother-in-laws Merhle Murphy and his wife Mildred, Gene Murphy, Harry Murphy, Dorothy Bell Cunningham and husband Marion, Mary Alice Thompson and husband Richard, Ruth Murphy and Thomas OConnor as well as best friend Carolyn Bell of Walkersville. Friends will be received on Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Ignatius of Loyola Country Church, 20 Urbana Church Road (Off of MD-80), Urbana, MD 21704, Father Michael Jendrek officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Arnold Murphy, Charles Mead, Lew Mead, Chris McMullin, Conley Wagner, Lee Baker and Tyler Murphy as honorary pall bearer.
