Mrs. Helen Celeste Walter Offutt, 89, of Frederick, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011 surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of the late Linwood T. Offutt Sr. They were married for 62 years.

She was born on October 14, 1921 and was the daughter of the late George C. and Ethel Walter. Mrs. Offutt was a Montgomery County farmer from 1940 to 1949. She was a dairy farmer and resident of Frederick County from 1949 until 1989. Her home farm was the Whittier sub division. She was a life member of Frederick County Agricultural Society. For 50 years, she was a member of the Frederick County Farm Bureau and Maryland/Virginia Milk Producers. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. She contributed to 4H Camp Center and Catholic Churches. In her spare time, she enjoyed Bingo, knitting, crocheting, puzzles, reading, gardening and playing the slot machines.

She is survived by her son, Linwood Offutt Jr. of Frederick, daughters, Virginia M. Miller and husband Terry E. of Frederick and Arlene L. Roderick and husband Francis H. of Ijamsville, sisters, E. Lorraine Sadtler, Dorothy M. Thompson and A. Jeanette Watkins, 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by sons, Franklin T Offutt, Walter E. Offutt and Charles E. Offutt, brothers, Norman O. Walter, George E. Walter and J. Franklin Walter, sisters, Harriet R. Lifka, Charlotte R. Childs, Ethelene E. Ayton and Catherine C. Dorsey.

The family will be receiving friends from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick. Father Lawrence K. Frazier will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
