Catharine Prentiss Plummer, 86, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at home, with members of her family at her side. Catharine, the daughter of Major General, U.S.A., and Mrs. Louis W. Prentiss, was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Washington. She graduated from Western High School in 1941, attended Mary Baldwin College and graduated from George Washington University in 1946. Catharine taught women's physical education at George Washington University until July 1949 when she married 2nd Lt. Walter W. Plummer. She and her husband subsequently lived at various Army posts in the United States and Germany until his retirement from the Army in 1995, at which time they moved to Frederick. She is survived by her husband of 60 years; two sons, Andrew of Sydney, Australia, and Louis of Ashland, Ore.; a daughter, Margretta Brown of Grenada, Calif.; a brother, Louis of Anthem, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Helen, in 2008. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the U.S. Army, the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Garden Club of Frederick and the Patuxent Croquet Club. She was for many years the chairwoman of the Flower Guild of All Saints' Episcopal Church, Frederick. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Brewer's Alley, 124 N. Market St., Frederick. Memorial services will be held July 9 at the restaurant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
