Mr. Philip Wayne Powers, 62, of Walkersville, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at his residence. Born Nov. 12, 1947, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Clarence E. Powers and Margie Katherine (Miller) Powers. Mr. Powers was a 1966 graduate of Frederick High School and received his bachelor's degree from Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Army. Philip was a member of the Frederick Elks Lodge 684 for 28 years. He is survived by former wife and close friend, Debbie Powers; and by brother, Robert E. Powers and his wife, Claire, of Seekonk, Mass.; as well as sisters, Bette Ann Shafer and her husband, John, of Frederick, and Marcia Jean Procino and her husband, Ronald, of Crofton. In addition, he is survived by nieces, Kim Madden and husband, Jim, and Jennifer Say and husband, Thad; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Grant Madden and Ashley Fitzgerald and husband, Scott, Isabelle Say, Sophia Say and Tyler Murn. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, in the historic Francis Scott Key Chapel within Mount Olivet Cemetery. The Rev. Lerry Fogle will officiate.
