Kathyleen Virginia White Pulkkinen went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 12, 2011 after a short stay at the Kline Hospice House in Frederick County, Maryland.
She was born October 10, 1922 at the family home on the River Road in Livermore, the daughter of Amos Turney and Elsie Richmond White. She was the first born of six children. She was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School (1941), and attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy MA. She married Onni John Pulkkinen October 19, 1943 in Lewiston, ME. Following the unexpected death of her father-in-law, they managed the family dairy farm in Howe's Corner, Turner until 1951 when they sold the farm and moved to Glove Factory Hill in Livermore. This move allowed her to return to her beloved Livermore Falls Church of the Nazarene where she became a faithful member. She served on the church board as a Steward, Sunday School Secretary, and also as church Treasurer for 30+ years. She has a vibrant love for missions and always supported sacrificially. Her employment history includes time at textile mills, a glove shop, Livermore and Norridgewock Shoe Shops, Berry Hill Orchards, but is probably best remembered as a cashier at Sampson's Super Market for almost 19 years. In 1990, she moved to Wilton near her son, Scott, where she did volunteer work at Franklin Memorial Hospital. In 1999 to be near her daughter, Sharon, she moved to Taney Village Apartments in Frederick, Maryland and made many lasting friendships. She joined New Beginning Church of the Nazarene and attended faithfully. Her Christian faith was the driving force of her life and she was a faithful tither and giver to World Missions throughout her life. Her faith, character and ability to adjust positively to life's challenges and changes are memories cherished by her children. She delighted in a good laugh and exhibited a winsome sense of humor. She immensely enjoyed going to the Dutch Treat in Wilton for a well-done hotdog and trips to Florida, and picking berries for the fun family times.
She was so fond of her two physical therapist, George Washburn at Northampton Nursing Home and Jin Park of Baker Rehab Group. She alson loved her caregivers Erica & Anna Eyler, Janet Wilbourne, Stephanie Clark and Brenda Arnold.
She was predeceased by her husband Onni, in 1989. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon and husband William Phelps of Frederick, MD; sons, Rev.Robert Pulkkinen and wife Margaret, Kings Mountain, NC; Scott and wife Avis, Wilton ME; and Dan and wife Robin, Arvada, CO; five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and her siblings, Mavis Appleton, MA, Shelton White, FL; Amos White and wife Ivah, MA; Anita Gatehouse, PA; and Owen White and wife Beulah, PA.
