Mr. Edward Lee Raynie, 69, of Frederick, died on Wednesday, September 7 at his residence. Born on April 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Gora H. Raynie and Eleanor V. Carlson (Raynie).
Mr. Raynie graduated in 1960 from Wheaton High School with the first graduating class. During his time there, he was involved in the jazz band, marching band, pep band and orchestra. He was in the Air Guard in the 231st Combat Communications (Mobile Squadron). During this time, he was assigned to guard Martin Luther King, Jr. during his "I Have A Dream" speech. Mr. Raynie worked as an agent for Geico's offices in Towson and D.C. until he left in 1990. When he moved to Frederick in 1994, he went to work at Lowe's on Buckeystown Pike where he worked until his death.
Mr. Raynie was a music buff, enjoying Jazz, especially the artists k.d. lang, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass and Tommy Dorsey. He was a fan of Nascar and the Lowe's Car, but most importantly, he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed the time he spent with them and being involved with their lives.
Mr. Raynie is survived by his children David Roy Raynie of Gaithersburg, Catherine Anne Gnatowski & Dennis of Mount Airy and Charlotte Kaye McKee of Silver Spring; grandchildren Rachael Gnatowski, Adam Gnatowski, Grace Gnatowski, Andrew Gnatowski and Elijah McKee as well as his brother Ronald Raynie & Joyce of Denham Springs, LA.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12 at 5:00 PM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to do so, please bring your used glasses to the funeral home to be donated to the Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
