Dorothy Gruden Reed

Mrs. Dorothy May Skeens Gruden Reed, 91, of Frederick went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 19, 2011. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph M. Gruden in 1973, and her second husband, Maurice L. Reed in 1987.

Dorothy was born December 13, 1919 in Charleston, W. Va., the daughter of Joseph and Amber Eskew Skeens. She worked in retail and manufacturing for many years, retiring from the American Optical Company.

She was a member of the Victory Christian Center Church. Dorothy loved church and reading the Bible.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Gruden Masser and husband, Philip, of Frederick; five grandchildren, Kevin Masser and wife, Nancy, of Carolina Shores, NC; Gina Christoff and husband, Patrick; Julie Ritchie and husband, Dave; Susan Masser Treadwell and husband, Michael; and Justin Gruden, all of Frederick; and eight great-granddaughters. She also is survived by a daughter-in-law, Rose Mary Gruden, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Eugene Gruden in August of this year. The last of her immediate family, she was predeceased by two brothers, Alvin Skeens and Frank Skeens, and four sisters, Ethel Sloane, Mary Elk, Virginia Mullins and Cora Simmons.

The family would like to thank the staff at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care and friendship given to Dorothy over the past three years.

Funeral services for Dorothy will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 from the chapel of Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Michael Garland of Victory Christian Center.

Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
