Mr. Glenn Paul Riggs, age 70, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband and soul mate for nearly 53 years of Mary Riggs, of Frederick. Born on March 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Ralph Riggs, Sr. and Lillian Riggs.
Mr. Riggs was a member of the Frederick Moose, 371 and the Brunswick Eagles, 1136. He worked for 47 year for the city of Frederick and the city of Frederick police department. He was a crossing guard for Thomas Johnson High School, finally retiring on February 25, 2010. He loved to camp at the Gettysburg Campground, watch NASCAR and most of all, he loved his family and his pets.
In addition to his wife , he survived by his two children, daughter Lisa Gallion of Brunswick and her special friend Lenny Davis, and son Russell Glenn Riggs and wife Diane, of Frederick. He was the grandfather of Michelle Riggs, Marianne Droneburg and husband Ronnie, Russell Riggs, Jr., and wife Alysa, Steven Riggs, Krystle Defriece and husband Travis, and Matthew Gallion and wife Jessica and the great-grandfather of 12. He is additionally survived by his siblings, Mamie Butts of Middletown, Mary Mason of Hagerstown, John and Carolyn Riggs of Detour, Charles and Pat Riggs of Rocky Ridge, and Richard and Betty Riggs of Detour. He was predeceased by his sister Claire Flook and his brother Ralph Riggs, Jr. Glenn was a father figure to Wayne Morgan, Jr., and Justin Morgan. He will be missed by his special friends, Paul and Vicky Morgan, Carol and Gene Payne, Sharon Covell, Doug and Linda Wishard, and Charles Gallion. He was fondly known to many people as Pappy.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 PM at the Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 11 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The officiating clergy will be Rev. Timothy S. May, Sr. The interment will follow at the Glade Reformed Cemetery, Walkersville. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Gallion, Ronnie Droneburg, Jr., Travis Defriece, Justin Morgan, Russell Riggs, Jr., Steven Riggs, Wayne Morgan, Jr., and Paul Morgan. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Howard Morgan. Contributions maybe made in Mr. Riggs' name to Animal Control of Frederick County, 1832 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21702.
