Mr. Grayson Edward "Eddie" Rippeon, 83, of Frederick, died Friday, March 4, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of the late Charlotte Trail Main Rippeon who died on Sept. 5, 2005.
Born January 28, 1928 near Libertytown, he was the son of the late Arthur Thomas and Ivy Turner Rippeon.
He was a veteran having enlisted for three years in the Army Air Force. He graduated from aircraft sheet metal school after he completed basic training. He served nearly two years in the Philippines and Japan.
Mr. Rippeon worked for 39 years at Zimmerman's Florist, eventually becoming greenhouse manager. Following this, he worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture at Fort Detrick in greenhouse research, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed duckpin bowling for many years at Arcade Lanes. In later years, he was a member of the Senior Recreation Council and he bowled regularly with the seniors at Village Lanes in Walkersville.
Mr. Rippeon was an avid vegetable and flower gardener. He greatly enjoyed helping others in his neighborhood. He was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick where he served as a church greeter, tended to the church garden, and was a member of the stewardship committee.
He was a member of the American Legion FSK Post 11, AMVETS of Frederick, AARP, NARFE, Seniors Recreation Council and "Families Plus".
He is survived by his sister, Joyce E. Haines of Woodsboro; two brothers, Arthur T. Rippeon, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and Frank A. Rippeon of Woodsboro; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Rippeon was predeceased by his infant daughter Jean Charlene Rippeon in 1960; two brothers, Otis N. Rippeon and Sherman B. Rippeon; and a sister, Charlotte E. Snoots.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 7 from Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop of Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
