George Vivian Robey

Mr. George Vivian Robey, 87, of Frederick and formerly of Adamstown, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He was the husband of the late Sarah Farren Robey, who died in 1979. Born April 17, 1923, in Bethesda, he was the son of the late Vivian and Virginia Caywood Robey. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Robey retired after 25 years as a finance officer for the National Naval Medical Center. He was well-known throughout the Urbana community as a leader for Boy Scout Troop 796, a past president of the Urbana Elementary School PTA and a volunteer with the Little League. He later served as district commissioner of Frederick County for the Boy Scouts of America. He loved fishing, gardening and bowling. He was also an avid Redskins fan. Mr. Robey was a member of the FSK American Legion, Post 11, and the AMVETS Post 2 of Frederick. Mr. Robey became a resident of Homewood at Crumland Farms in 2005. He greatly enjoyed participating in the residential social activities offered at Homewood. He is survived by three sons, Russell Robey, Edward Robey and Thomas Robey; two daughters, Robin Lawson and Sally Robey; four grandchildren, Warren Lawson, Brandon Lawson, Christopher Robey and Erin Lawson; three great-grandchildren, Madison Lawson, Gabriella Lawson and Abigail Lawson; and two sisters, Julia Docking and Frances Barnes. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Robey was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Robey. A memorial service in celebration of Mr. Robey's life will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Chaplain Esther Ziegler of Homewood. Interment will be private.
