Mr. Clarence A. Rohrbaugh died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Washington Hospital Center surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of the late Pauline Fout Rohrbaugh, who predeceased him on June 10, 2005. They had been married for 59 years.
Born May 1, 1919 in Chaffee, W. Va., he was the son of the late John M. and Bessie Ellen Poffenberger Rohrbaugh.
Mr. Rohrbaugh graduated from Elk Garden High School and upon graduation, went to work for West Penn Electric Co.
In 1939, he arrived in Frederick with the Civilian Conservation Corps. In early 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army. He was proud to have served in both Theaters of Operations. In 1941, he was in the Aleutian Islands serving in the Pacific Theater and in 1945, he served in the European Theater. He was a member of the 159th Infantry Division, Anti Tank Co. After the war, he remained overseas as part of the Occupational Forces in Germany until October of 1945. He was honorably discharged on November 9, 1945.
He worked for CitiService Oil Company and also for Glenn E. Waltz Plumbing and Heating in the oil division.
Mr. Rohrbaugh was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, Francis Scott Key Post 11 American Legion, Amvets Post 2, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 684 Frederick, and was a life member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his daughter Bonnie L. Zimmerman and husband R. Dennis of Frederick; two granddaughters, Wendi L. Eitel and husband, Steve, of Bishopville, and Holli E. Foltz and husband, Marc, of Jefferson; three great-grandchildren, Collin Eitel, Meredith Eitel, and Max Foltz; one step-great grandson, Ethan Seeders.
He also is survived by a brother, Darrell Rohrbaugh of West Virginia, and a special niece, Charlotte Thomas of Oakland. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to services. Entombment will immediately follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
