Catherine Doll Oland Routzahn

Mrs. Catherine Doll Oland Routzahn, 87, formerly of Frederick and Federalsburg, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Homestead Manor Assisted Living Community in Denton. She was the wife of the late William Stanley Routzahn Sr., who died Dec. 30, 1993. Born March 26, 1923, in Adamstown, she was a daughter of the late Charles David and Mamie Beatrice Grubb Oland. When living in Frederick, she was a homemaker for many years, then in 1964, she and her husband moved to Cambridge on the Eastern Shore, where they started a furniture store known as Routzahn and Son. After several years, they moved to Federalsburg, where together they bought and sold homes and oversaw rental properties, which she continued for many years after her husband's death. Mrs. Routzahn was a former member of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in Frederick. She was an avid bingo player and gardener and a Baltimore Orioles fan. She had a great love for her entire family, especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and sharing their sports activities. Surviving are her two children, William S. Routzahn Jr. and friend, Elaine, and Sherry Spencer and husband, Chuck, all of Easton; three sisters, June Best, Jean Crone and Margaret Oland, all of Frederick; four grandchildren, Stephanie Henry and husband, Scott, Jason Routzahn, Molly Routzahn and friend, Geoff, and Andrew Routzahn; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Henry, Alaina Henry and Jackson Diefenderfer; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by Christine Routzahn, of Trappe, whom she loved as a daughter. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Oland and James Oland; and two sisters, Nell Miller and Fern Day. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, May 27, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. The Rev. Jan Daffern, associate pastor of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Pallbearers will be Andrew Routzahn, Jason Routzahn, Chuck Spencer, Taylor Henry, Scott Henry and Darren Jackson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caroline Hospice Foundation Inc., 613 S. Fifth Ave., P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
