John R. Sigafoos

Mr. John Ronald Sigafoos, 81, of Jefferson, went to be with his Lord and Savior and join his wife, on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. He was the husband of the late June Ruth Kramer Sigafoos. She passed on December 7, 2002. Born in Pittston, Pennsylvania on February 11, 1930, he was a son of the late John J. and Mabel Stahl Sigafoos. Mr. Sigafoos served his country in the United States Air Force. He was retired from the Federal Government where he worked for the Defense Mapping Agency as supervisor cartographer. He was a long time member since 1972 of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Jefferson, where he was active in the church choir. He was also a member of the Brunswick Moose and the Jefferson Ruritian Club. He was one of the founding leaders of the Boy Scout Troop #1066 in Jefferson. He enjoyed camping, traveling and going on bus trips. He especially loved his family and spending time with them all. Surviving him are his three children, Jayne R. Hopwood and husband Bill, of Jefferson, Randy Sigafoos and wife Maggie, of Brunswick and Jill R. Sundstrom and husband Alex, of Ranson, W Va., eight grandchildren, Nicole Wachter, Nathan Wachter, Craig Wachter, Jessie Sigafoos, Olivia Sundstrom, Hayley Sundstrom, Billy Hopwood and Angie Hopwood, and one great grandson, Declan James Hopwood. He will also be remembered by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sigafoos. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, February 18, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 19, 2011, from the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Jefferson, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Cemetery, Jefferson. The Rev. Katrina L. Holland, pastor of the church, will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3864 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755.
