Douglas William Smith , 51, of Frederick, passed away peacefully Monday November 8th at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was born in Frederick on December 6, 1958, and was a son of Jack G. Smith, of Frederick, and the late Madeline "Peg" Buhrman Smith, who died in 2005.
He was a long time Frederick city resident. Doug completed the Aircraft Certification Program at FCC and worked competently in that field during the past 30 years for various aerospace and engineering companies including Fairchild, TTC, Orbital, Smiths and currently GE Aviation. Doug received many awards as a result of his work and remained close friends with co-workers within these organizations. Doug marched to the beat of his own drum in a special, loving and thoughtful way. He generously donated his time, money and labor to other people, many times anonymously. Doug is survived by his sister Shelley Smith Miller and husband Dennis, of Frederick, brother Randolph G. Smith and wife Sally of Mt. Airy, nephews Kenneth, Daniel and Ryan Smith, many supportive Aunts, Uncles, cousins and family pet Browney. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 12, 2010, from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 West Seventh Street, Frederick. The Rev. Ronald E, Reaves, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Woodsboro. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Frederick Memorial Hospital Gift Tribute, 400 West Seventh Street, Frederick, MD 21701 or to a charity of one's choice.
