Mrs. Joanna Adlington Urner Smith, of Frederick, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at her home. She was the loving wife of Col. Gerald Humphrey Smith, (Brasilian Air Force Ret.) Born in Baltimore on February 22, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Walker and Irma Adlington Bradshaw Urner. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker for most of her life and was a graduate of Frederick High School Class of 1941 and was always active on the reunion committee and just celebrated the 70th reunion. She was also a graduate of St. Mary's College in Maryland. She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, Francis Scott Key American Legion Auxiliary and the Frederick Elks Lodge. Surviving in addition to her husband are her three children, Jody Ward and husband Kevin, of Clifton, VA, James Smith and fiancee Kate Welter, of Ijamsville and Robert Smith, of Wolfsville, five grandchildren, Christopher R. Ward and wife Jennifer, of Leesburg, VA, Shannon O'Neill Ward Sundra and husband Todd, of Ashburn, VA, Caitlin E. Adlington Ward, of Clifton, VA, Alexis Hammond Smith, of Wilmington, NC and Zachary M. Smith, of Ijamsville, and four great grandchildren, Zoe L. Ward, Brooklyn G. Sundra, Elena C. Ward and Madelyn A. Sundra, and a sister-in-law, Lorian Brown, and a niece, Katharine Urner-Jones and husband Larry. She will also be remembered by, Nesha and Greg Stone, two very special people in her life, many neighbors and friends who provided great care and love along with Hospice. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph F. Urner, who died in May of 2011. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday, September 30, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 1, 2011, from the All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 West Church Street, Frederick. The Rev. Thomas A. Momberg, rector of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.
