Richard Gannon Smith

Mr. Richard Gannon Smith, 59, of Beech Grove, Ind., formerly of Frederick, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at his residence. Born July 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Paul Gannon Smith and Anne (Stier) Smith. Mr. Smith was an accountant, working for many years for the federal government until his retirement in 2000. He served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1977, earning the rank of sergeant. He earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1972 and a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1978, both from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Public Administration from the College of Urban Affairs, University of Nevada, in 2005. He was an avid traveler and spent many years seeing the world.

Mr. Smith is survived by his sisters, Deborah Nichols and her husband, William, of Adamstown, and Susan Collins and her husband, A. Timothy, of Frederick. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Helen Nichols, Chloe Nichols, Claire Nichols, Sarah Collins and Alex Collins.
