Jesse J. Speak, Sr.

Mr. Jesse Joy Speak, Sr., 77, of Thurmont, died on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at his home. He was the loving husband of Shirley Leatherman Speak. Born in Frederick County on October 27, 1933, he was a son of the late Roy Wilson and Ethel Winpigler Speak. Mr. Speak worked for many years as a dairy farmer in Frederick County and drove trucks for the R.F. Kline Company in Frederick. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick. He had a great love for his entire family, of which he enjoyed spending time with and sharing in family activities, and helping his son in his business, Speak Automotive. He enjoyed watching tractor pulls, playing cards and spending time with his many friends. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Jesse J. Speak, Jr., and wife Janet, of Frederick,Thomas D. Speak and wife Angela, of Thurmont, Kathy L. Speak, of Fairfield, PA and Donna S. Speak, of Gettysburg, PA, two sisters, Georgia I. Smith and Betty K. Perkins, both of Walkersville, six grandchildren Jesse J. Speak III, Derrick A. Speak, Bradley Stidom and wife Melissa, Eric J. Speak, Mark T. Speak and Danielle Eyler, three great grandchildren, Alexis S. Speak, Ryan C. Speak and Corey M. Stidom. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews and a special friend, Candy Roman. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark R. Speak and four brothers, Lamar, John, Roy and Robert Speak. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Saturday, May 28, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 29, 2011, from the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 31 East Church Street, Frederick. The Rev. Dr. Robert Driver-Bishop, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Utica Cemetery, Utica. Online condolences may be shared at www.keeneybasford.com.
