Chester Calvin Staley Sr.

Mr. Chester Calvin Staley Sr., 82, of Frederick, Maryland died on Friday, November 18, 2011 at his home.

Born October 24, 1929 in Catonsville, MD, he was the son of the late Chester Stover and Leona Catherine (Staley) Snyder. He attended Catonsville High School and The Signal School in Monmouth, NJ. He worked for East Coast Relay Station and later retired from Kings Floor Service. He was well known for his more than 60 years of community and volunteer service. He was a member of The National Park Service, a volunteer with the Catoctin Mountain Park from 1976-2010, a member of the FSK Lodge 470, a Scoutmaster for 14 years to Troop 797 Boy Scouts of America for which he was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and a lifetime member of Faith United Church of Christ in Charlesville, a veteran member of the 17th Pennsylvania Volunteer Calvary North/South Skirmish Association, a member of the National Rifle Association, an Order of the Arrow Chapter advisor for 13 years in the FSK district, and a member of CAMPER. He was a devoted and beloved fan of the Frederick Keys, he could often be heard cheering them on, he almost never missed a home game.

Chester is survived by four children, Chester C. Staley Jr. and wife Robin of Hagerstown, Michael E. Staley of Manchester, Pamela L. Shaw and husband George of Walkersville, and Sandra D. Etzler and boyfriend Lester of Frederick; nine grandchildren, Chester III, Mandy, Jason, Christopher, George III, Erin, Meghan, Caitlin, and Heather; nine great grandchildren and one on the way.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 from 9 to 11 AM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Etchison Memorial Chapel, 106 E. Church St, Frederick. Rev. Charles Beekley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
