John A. Stevenson

July 23, 1940 — January 14, 2011

Mr. John A. Stevenson, 70, of Ocean City, NJ and Merrills Inlet, SC, died Friday, January 14th, 2011 at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania where he was surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Marcia Stevenson, his wife of 52 years.

Born July 23, 1940, in McKeesport, PA, he was the son of the late William Warner and Marie Stevenson. John recently retired from the Clark Shoe Company (formerly Hanover Shoes) where he started as a 17 year old part time shoe salesman working his way to a VP of Clark Shoes. He worked at Clark for over 50 years. It was the only company he worked for his entire working life.

John was a big personality who loved meeting and getting to know everyone he met along the way. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching football and loved his 3 mile walks, especially on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ. He enjoyed watching his grandchildrens sporting events, his granddaughters basketball and lacrosse games and attending his grandsons football games. He became a fixture at Thomas Johnson football games for over seven years. You could always find him in the top row below the press box where you could hear his constant chant of Here we go, here we go throughout the game. He had the added pleasure this year of attending every home, and many away, games at Wake Forest University and the new Oakdale High School.

In addition to his wife Marcia, John is survived by three daughters: Joann Chase and her husband Pat of Frederick, MD; Jane Molnar and her husband John of Frederick, MD; and Jill Novesal and her husband Jim of Mount Airy, MD, as well as six grandchildren; Steven Chase, Brian Chase, Morgan Molnar, Jay Molnar, Kayla Novesal and Lindsay Novesal; and mother-in-law Helen Mihalko, of Glassport, PA.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, Tuesday, January 18th at Keeney & Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 19th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 112 E. 2nd St., Frederick, Maryland. Interment will follow immediately after services.
