Mr. Charles William Stone Sr., 63, of Thurmont, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, of injuries suffered in a tractor accident in Urbana. He was the husband of Joan (Rowe) Stone. Born July 6, 1947, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Albert and Madeline (Flohr) Stone Sr. Mr. Stone was a longtime contractor and worked in roofing for many years. In his early years, he was associated with Hartman Roofing, and later owned and operated Stone Home Improvements. He was an avid horseman and a member of the American Draft Horse Association. For many years, Mr. Stone enjoyed farming and worked in cooperative farming around Frederick County. In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by three sons and their spouses, Charles W. Stone Jr. and Brenda Cooper, Carlas Stone and Heather Stone, and Carl Stone and Stacey Stone; five brothers, Albert Stone Jr., Calvin Stone and John Stone, all of Frederick, and Jerry Stone and Raymond Stone, both of West Virginia; four sisters, Mary Beard of Thurmont, Betty Bowers of Frederick, Rose Ruff of Florida and Margaret Mayne of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Charles Stone III and wife, Carol, Chris Stone, Miriah Stone and Eric Stone; great-grandchildren, Logan Stone and Sarah Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by special family friends, Crystal Cooper and Malekhi Weedon. He was preceded in death by brothers, Chester Stone, Richard Stone and Robert Stone; and sisters, Agnes Horner and Barbara Anderson. The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home. The Rev. Charles G. Beekley will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
