Mary Liz Stroup

Mary Liz Stroup, age 86, passed on to her Heavenly Home on July 30, 2011 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Howard "Barney" Stroup who passed away on October 27, 1968. Born on May 12, 1925 in Point of Rocks she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lizzie Stunkle.

Mary worked at Frederick High School for 12 years in the cafeteria. She continued her work for the Frederick Memorial Hospital in housekeeping, retiring after 20 years of service. She was a life member of Junior Fire Company and the Auxiliary. She was a long time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick. After moving to Citizens, she enjoyed playing bingo and always enjoyed visiting with her friends.

Mary was the devoted mother of Shirley Stroup of Frederick and Betty Jane Gallagher of Point of Rocks. She was the grandmother of Sarah Jean Brantley and husband Joe of Harpers Ferry and Amy Marie Hurst and husband Kevin of Columbia. She will also be missed by her special friends, Peg, Neeta, Juanita, Betty and Glenda and her many dear friends at citizens and through out the community.

Friends will be received on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 10 AM. Rev. Dr. W. Philip Fogarty will officiate. The interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Brantley, Kevin Hurst, Jim Bopst, Charles Abrecht, James Morgan and Mike Hahn.
