Mark Sherman Thomas, Jr.

Mr. Mark Sherman Thomas, Jr., 83, of Frederick died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Doris Felicity Thomas who predeceased him on Sept. 2, 2000.

Born June 8, 1927 in Gaither, MD., he was the son of the late Mark Sherman, Sr., and Eleanor Trayer Thomas.

He was a veteran of World War II. He worked as a Cartographer Engineer for the Army Map Service for many years.

Mr. Thomas loved dogs and together with his wife, they raised and showed Chihuahua dogs. He also was a member of the Maryland Chihuahua Club, as well as the Mason/Dixon Collie Club.

He was an avid reader and also a member of the FSK Antique Auto Club. He especially loved riding in his son's corvette. He and his wife were former members of St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Frederick.

Mr. Thomas had resided for the past seven years at the home of his son, Mark Stephen Thomas and his wife, Letecia. They lovingly cared for their dad, allowing him the opportunity to remain at home and not in nursing home care. They greatly cherished their time together, and he will be sadly missed.

Mr. Thomas is survived by two sons, Mark Stephen Thomas and wife, Letecia, of Frederick, and Paul Radcliff Thomas of Hagerstown; one daughter, Brenda Ann Giguere and husband, Richard, of Tom Ball, Texas; four grandchildren, Crystal Renee Kitchin and husband, William; Timothy Mender and wife, Liz; Claire Thomas, and Chelle Thomas; and eight great-grandchildren. He also will be remembered by his former daughter-in-law, Lenore Thomas

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Coretta Dick.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Columba Gilliss of St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Frederick.

Interment will follow in Springfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Sykesville.
