Mrs. Quinella Mae Toms, 82, formerly of Brunswick, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick. Born July 9, 1927, in Fort Worth, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Everett Cecil and Mary Ella Ritchmond Muse. Mrs. Toms moved to Frederick County from Texas in 1966 and began working as a licensed practical nurse. She was employed by several nursing homes in the Frederick area as well as Frederick Memorial Hospital. She also did private-duty nursing and at one point was working directly with polio patients. Mrs. Toms was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by two sons, Norman D. Mercer III, of Texarkana, Texas; and John E. Mercer of Woodsboro; three daughters, Quinella F. Miller of Brunswick, Roxanna R. Mercer of Texas, and Cynthia K. Warnock of Frederick; one brother, Daniel Muse of Fair Grove, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Huffman of Poolsville, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Toms will also be remembered by her former husband, Edward Toms, of Point of Rocks; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Toms will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, from Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Pastor Edward Hartman will officiate. Graveside services with interment will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Arlington Cemetery, 801 Mary St., Arlington, Texas. Arrangements in Texas are by Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N.
