The Rev. Kenneth Aubrey Tyson, 85, died at the Health Care Center of Homewood at Crumland Farms on Friday, July 23, 2010. He was the loving husband of his devoted wife, Lois Fry Tyson, for 63 years. He was born in Baltimore on June 18, 1925. His early years were spent in Baltimore and Harford counties until he became a resident of the former Buckingham School for Boys in Buckeystown. During World War II, he served for three years in the U.S. Navy in the European and Pacific theaters until his honorable discharge in May 1946. Following his military service, he decided to enter the Christian ministry. He attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and the Westminster Theological Seminary (now Wesley Seminary) and was fully ordained as a Methodist minister in the Baltimore/Washington Conference in 1955. During his 41 years of active ministerial service, he was pastor of the following United Methodist Churches: Linganore (Unionville), Libertytown, Timonium, Calvary (Frederick) and Bethesda. Also, he served as the district superintendent of the Cumberland/Hagerstown District and as conference statistician. Following his eight years as conference treasurer/business manager, he retired in 1993. He was actively involved in many other conference committees and agencies throughout his career. The Rev. Tyson participated in many community and religious organizations where he lived. In addition to his wife, the Rev. Tyson is survived by two daughters, Wanda T. Severance (William) of McHenry, and Janet M. Tyson of Bethesda. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Capps of Verona, Pa. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The Rev. Tyson was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Kenneth in 1974, as well as his two brothers. The family will receive family and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. Second St., Frederick. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
