Samuel Wahl

Mr. Samuel Ralph Wahl, 78, of New Market, died on May 6, 2011 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Eva Culler Wahl, whom he married on February 1, 1954. Born on November 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Charles Wahl and Clara Youngblood Wahl Hager.

Mr. Wahl enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 4, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA. He served for 20 years and retired in 1970. Upon his retirement, he worked as a plumber for R.J. Smith and Vansant Plumbing. Mr. Wahl was a member of the American Legion Post #11 and the AmVets Frederick Post #2. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church in Libertytown. Since retiring he has been very involved in all his grandchildren's lives. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's ball games and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Eva Culler Wahl, Mr. Wahl is survived by children Daniel Wahl and wife Sharon of Frederick, Teresa Webb of Libertytown, Rose McMurdo and husband Daniel of New Market, Richard Wahl Sr. and wife Amy of Brunswick and daughter-in-law Sherry Wahl of Hagerstown. He is also survived by grandchildren Roxanne Fritz, Christina Wahl, Ryan Webb, Eva Webb, Nikki Webb, Kurtz Wahl, Kathy Thompson, Tracey Carr, Christopher Wahl, Jr, Kevin Wahl, Julie Suthard, Jesse McMurdo, Carissa Wahl and Richard Wahl Jr. as well as great-grandchildren Gary, Robert, Raine, Josh, Sam, Tommy, Brendan, Joey, Mirabellah, Connor, Peyton, Riley David and Penelope and siblings Sister Christopher Wahl, Loretta Nicodemus, William Wahl and wife Lorraine, James Wahl and wife Alice and sister-in-law Elsie Wahl.

He was preceded in death by children Steven Wahl, David Wahl, Robert Wahl, Christopher Wahl, Sr., Julie Wahl, daughter-in-law Sheri Wahl, son-in-law Gary Webb, granddaughter Crystal Wahl, brothers Herman Wahl, Charles Wahl, Lloyd Wahl, Roy Wahl, Richard Wahl and brother-in-law Ray Nicodemus.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 9 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 5463 Jefferson Pike, Feagaville, the Rev. Kenneth Gill officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Ryan Webb, Christopher Wahl, Jr., Kurtz Wahl, Jesse McMurdo, Kevin Wahl and Richard Wahl, Jr. Interment will immediately follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Feagaville.
