John T. Weaver, better known to his friends as "Wolf," passed away Monday, July 19, 2010, after a brief illness. A celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Olde Towne Tavern, Market Street, Frederick. John was born May 7, 1947, to James and Edna Totten Weaver. Shortly after, his family moved to Ridgway, Pa. Here, in the Allegheny Mountains, he spent a great deal of time in the surrounding woods and began a lifelong study of and devotion to wildlife. He was an astute naturalist who would share his enthusiasm for nature with anyone at anytime. After graduating from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. These four years with the Signal Corps were mostly spent in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict. During his time there, he became very interested in the culture of Thailand -- its people, their way of life and their foods. In 1974, John began working for CSX until his retirement -- inspecting and maintaining tracks. In 1988, he married Nancy Woods, who survives along with John's stepdaughter, Brooke. He is also survived by one brother, Charles, who resides in Kalkaska, Mich. Donations, appreciated and if wished, may be made to Nature Conservancy, Worldwide Office, Attn: John Weaver Memorial Fund, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606. Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, Frederick. Expressions of sympathy for the family may be left at KeeneyBasford.com
