Mr. Melvin Lee Wilkins, 87, of Frederick, died on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the Golden Living Center, Frederick. He was the husband of 63 years to Helen Sager Wilkins. Born on August 13, 1923 in Edinburg, Virginia, he was a son of the late Charles Ephriam and Edna Pauline Painter Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins was retired after 29 1/2 years in sales with H B. Duvall, Inc., of Frederick. He was a member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, an avid gardener, and enjoyed talking and joking with his many farmer friends. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: Thomas A. Wilkins and wife Debra Taylor, M.D., of Carlisle, PA, Teresa L. Wilkins and husband Kenneth R. Blair, of Bluemont, VA, and Toni D. Barber, of Ocean City, MD; four grandchildren: Taylor Wilkins, Maris Wilkins, Blaine Ridgley, and Matthew Barber; four brothers: Lawrence Wilkins and wife Elaine, Charles Wilkins and wife Carolyn, Bruce Wilkins and wife Jean, all of Edinburg, VA, and Galen Wilkins of North Carolina. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Keeney and Basford PA Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Janice Daffern, associate pastor of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, will officiate. Internment will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Melvin's memory to his home church, St. John's United Church of Christ, Edinburg, VA.
