Mr. George Edward Wilt, 88, of Frederick, died on Friday, August 19, 2011 in Frederick County. He was the husband of Louise V. Wilt of 65 years.
Born on Feb. 18, 1923 in Brentwood, MD, he was the son of the late George H. and Margaret M. Rutherford Wilt.
He attended Frederick County schools. He was a member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church and served on several committees. Mr. Wilt was an owner/operator of a dairy farm for many years. He also was a rural mail carrier, and a real estate broker. He loved woodworking and restoring historic homes and antique cars. Mr. Wilt sang in a chorus known as the Golden Tones and the Mello Tones.
He greatly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert Bob Wilt and wife, Joyce, of Jefferson; two daughters, Jane OBrien and husband, Tom, of Manassas, Va., and Robin Cook and husband, Terry, of Frederick; and two sisters, Amelia M. Webb of North Carolina and Betty Wilt of Ohio.
In addition, he is survived by nine grandchildren, Tanya Poillucci and husband, Michael, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; Curtis Marshall and wife, Laura, of Richmond, Va.; Kelly OBrien and husband, Jeff, of Bristow, Va.; Jessica Wise of Frederick; Dana Deyton and husband, Nick, of Woodsboro; Jamie Wilt of Frederick; Tara Whipp of Inwood, W.Va; and Allison and Garrett Cook of Frederick. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Harry Wilt and a sister, Evelyn Claggett.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ken Walker and the Rev. Linda Warehime.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Serving as bearers will be Terry Cook, Tom OBrien, Curtis Marshall, Mike Poillucci, Logan Poillucci, Garett Poillucci, and Nick Deyton.
