Betty Jane Wood

Mrs. Betty Jane Wood, age 77, of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Northampton Manor, Frederick. She was the wife of the late Robert P. Wood who passed away in May of 2009. Born on November 30, 1933 in a house on West 5th Street the youngest of 6 children, she was the daughter of the late John and Elva Yinger.

Mrs. Wood graduated from Frederick High School in the class of 1952. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator at C&P Telephone Company on E. Patrick St. in 1958 she began her employment at American Optical Co., working there until 1965. During her employment at America Optical, she married Robert P. Wood on October 11, 1963. In 1966 she worked for Maas Opticians in downtown Frederick until she retired from working in 1988. In her free time she enjoyed working with ceramics, dancing and attending different events with her husband and her friends in the New Market Lions Club for many years. She loved her church and her church family.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her son, Michael Wood of North Carolina, 6 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter Brenda Wyatt who passed away in September of 2006.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick, Friday, July 8, 2011 at 3:00 PM. Those wishing to attend, please meet inside the gate of the cemetery, by the FSK Chapel. A memorial service will follow at Emmanuel Alliance Church, 7102 Ladd Ct (just off New Design Rd) Frederick, MD 21703 at 4:00 PM. Rev. Stephen M. Kroh will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Alliance Church at the above address or to American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.
