Mr. Norman W. Fox, Sr., age 84, of Frederick, passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2012 at his residence. He was the devoted husband for almost 60 years of the late Frances E. (Crummitt) Fox who passed away on May 24, 2011. Born on December 25, 1927 in Frederick County he was the son of the late Henry Jake and Elsie Mae Fox. Mr. Fox was a career military man. He served the United States Army from 1946-1969 earning the following honors: National Defense Service Metal, Bronze Star Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal with a Bronze Clasp - 4 Loops. Following his service in the military, Mr. Fox was a millwright worker, doing contracted worked with Bechtel. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union. He also worked for the Department of Energy as a security guard. In his free time he enjoyed wood working, yard work and gardening. He enjoyed socializing often going to many fire company breakfasts and was a member of the American Legion, AmVets, and a former member of the Moose. Most of all he loved his family, eating crabs, summer picnics and playing cards. He was a member of Saint Luke's Lutheran Church in Feagaville. Mr. Fox was the caring father of Robert W. Fox, Sr. and wife Robin of Cavetown, Norman W. Fox, Jr. and wife Maryann of Myersville, Brenda D. Ridgley and husband William of Lewistown, and William E. Fox and wife Diane of Braddock; the grandfather of Robert Fox, Jr., April Fox, Kristi Arnold, Michelle Klass, Joseph Fox and Natalie Fox; and the great-grandfather of seven. He is additionally survived by his siblings Herbert Fox, Catherine Clark, Ruth Wilhide, and Eleanor Hahn. He is preceded in death by his other siblings John Fox, Doris Craver, and Thomas Fox. Friends will be received on Monday, January 16, 2012 from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 12 Noon. Rev. Kenneth E. Gill, Jr. will officiate. The interment will follow at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Serving as pallbearers will likely be members of the Maryland Honor Guard. Serving as family pallbearers will be Rick Hahn, Jerry Hahn, Joseph Fox, William Crummitt, David Crummitt, and Kieffer Crummitt, Sr. Contributions may be made in Mr. Fox's name to the Saint Luke's Lutheran Church, 5463 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21703.
