Helen Irene Hiser, age 89 and one month, of Frederick, joined her parents, sisters and husband in Heaven on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 12:05 PM at the Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy. Born on December 30, 1922 in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albert Henry and Mary Ethel (Keys) Miller. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Quentin Hiser and the former wife of Floyd (Whitey) Ward, also decesased. Mrs. Hiser retired from the C&P Telephone Company after 25 years of service. She began as a telephone operator in Washington, PA and transferred when the family moved to Maryland in 1954, where she later worked in line assignment. Mrs. Hiser was a die-hard Caps, Nats, and Redskins fan. Her day was complete if there was a game on later. She loved Nicholas Backstrom and Tyler Clippard, as well as the announcers Ray Knight and Craig Laughlin and Joe Bedenotti. Dana Milbank was a favorite Wash. Post columnist. Her hobbies included china painting and cooking. She was the devoted mother of Linda Jane Ward Smyth, formerly of South Bend, IN, currently of Frederick, and David Bryan Ward, of Frederick and the grandmother of Aran and Meghan Smyth. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Clare, Martha, Ruth, Evelyn, Paul, and George. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be additionally missed by her neighbors, whose children she watched grow from babies to adulthood. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February, 11, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701. Chaplain Pothin Ngyele will officiate.
