Perla Virginia Frye

January 10, 1920 — February 12, 2012

Mrs. Perla Virginia Frye, born January 10, 1920 in Browningsville, and wife of Richard Hickman Frye, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Winfield Beall and Virgie May Beall. Perla graduated from Gaithersburg High School and was an avid basketball player and a high scorer for her team, having earned a letter G. She attended Strayer Business College, earning her secretarial and business skills degree. She worked for several Judicial and private businesses prior to getting married and raising her family. Perla married Richard Frye on April 13, 1940 in Hagerstown and they would have celebrated 72 years together this April. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, quilting, crossword puzzles, reading and playing games with her grandchildren. She also loved making crafts and making beautiful handmade cards for all occasions. She was a life time member of the Rebekah and Odd Fellows Lodge and a Past Nobel Grand. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Ronald Frye and wife, Debbie of Myersville; Larry Frye and wife, Kathy, of Clarksburg; Ellen Morton and husband, Jerry, of Frederick; James Frye of Frederick; Julie Nicklas and husband, Randy, of Buckeystown; and Betsy Grady and companion, James Talbot, of Laurel. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Robin Hammond of Virginia; Steven Frye of Boyds; Thomas Morton, Joy Lineberry, James Frye, Rachel Morton, and Richard Frye, all of Frederick, Sean Grady of Pennsylvania; Marshal Kisner of Gaithersburg, and Randy Nicklas and Tyler Nicklas, both of Buckeystown; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Hammond, Ben Hammond, Elyse Hammond, Thomas Morton, Jr., Summer Frye, Nicole Frye and Marcus Kisner. Perla was preceeded in death by her four brothers, Ernest, Francis, Vincient, and Arbrey Beall. There will be no services or interment at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Perla may be sent to Carroll Manor Fire Co., 2795 Adams Street, Adamstown, MD 21710; or to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, 100 N. Charles Street, Suite 234, Baltimore, MD 21201. . Arrangements are being handled by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick.
