Shirley Jean Young

Mrs. Shirley Jean Young, 78, of Frederick, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Young. Born December 31, 1933 in El Dorado, Ark, she was the daughter of the late John Hamilton and Elizabeth Mann Sheehan. Mrs. Young enjoyed volunteering, reading, and playing bingo at Edenton Retirement Community where she resided. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Known affectionately to her grandchildren as Gramster and GG, she was "the cutest thing ever." She is survived by three daughters, Karen Weed of Gaithersburg, Jenifer Smith of Urbana, and Michelle Treadwell of Frederick; five grandchildren, Jessica Shifflett, Meagan Arline, Steven Treadwell, Brian Smith, and Patrick Treadwell; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Treadwell and Jackson Arline. She was predeceased by a brother. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street, Frederick. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas S. Momberg. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
