Mrs. Emma Louise Baker Wachter, 86, of Burtonsville, MD and formerly of Cooksville, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Brook Grove Center, Sandy Spring, MD. She was the wife of the late Bruce Edward Wachter, who predeceased her on February 4, 1978. Born July 15, 1925 in Kemptown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Winfred E. Baker and Esther Ruth Greene Baker Butler. In earlier years, she and her husband owned Delaval Sales & Service and they also dairy farmed together in the Gaithersburg and Cooksville areas. Later, she was a school bus driver for Howard County Public Schools. Mrs. Wachter eventually retired as a bank teller at Sandy Spring Bank in Ashton, MD. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid bingo player and loved traveling with the Damascus Travel Club. Her trip to Hawaii with her friend Veronica was very special to her. She enjoyed being at Lake Anna with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wachter was admired by many and always wanted to make sure that everyone was fed and clothed. She looked forward to Sunday morning family breakfasts at Lohrs Family Restaurant in Frederick, Md. When she was able, she looked forward to making the store deposit for her daughter and son-in-law for their store, Laurel Meat Market. She is survived by her five daughters and their husbands, Ruth Ann and Bill Miles of Burtonsville, Md., Bonnie and Chuck Cramer of New Market, Md., Norma and Howard Fleming of Mineral Va. formerly of Hollywood, Md., Mary Sue and Tom Patten of Frederick, Md., and Brucie and Bruce Lindsey of Boonsboro, Md., 18 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, with number 41 due at the end of March. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Miles; her brother, William (Billy) Baker; and her sister Anna Mae Fukes. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, Md. 21701. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Albert K. Lane, III, of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Utica.
