Charles Lawrence Smith, 64 of Frederick, Maryland died March 24, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was born November 4, 1947 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Harold A. Smith and Pauline A. Smith. He attended Washington County schools and graduated from Marietta High School in 1965 and Hocking Technical College. In 1967 he married Fon Elaine (Coffman) Smith. He entered military service in 1966, retiring from the Army as Master Sergeant with 28 years of service. He was employed at the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center at Ft. Detrick for 15 years. He was a member of the Civitan Club of Frederick, serving as distinguished club president, distinguished Chesapeake District Governor and served on many committees on the Civitan International level. He was the recipient of the club honor key, the district honor key, and the Civitan International Honor Key, the highest awards the organization bestows upon its members. He also served as President of the Foundation for Mentally Retarded and Handicapped Children, Chesapeake District, Civitan International. He was also a member of the Frederick Coin Club, serving as treasurer. He is survived by his wife of 44 years and two sons, Nathaniel (Nancy) Smith of the Republic of Singapore, Kenneth (Andrea) Smith of Boonsboro, MD; and beloved Grandpa to six grandchildren; Giuliana, Adriana, and Eliana Smith of the Republic of Singapore and Owen, Avery and Emma Smith of Boonsboro, MD. Also surviving are brothers, Harold "Jerry"(Lorna) Smith of Norwich, OH, Stephen (Marcia)Smith of Universal City, TX, John Smith of Crownsville, MD, and Brian (Yolanda) Smith of Marietta, OH; his mother-law Fon H. Coffman; sisters-in-law, Karen (Gary) Doan and Karla Coffman, all of Marietta, OH. He is also survived by uncle Dr. Charles H. Ingraham of Delaware, OH; Delmar Smith of Marietta, OH; aunts Kathryn Bowen of Marietta, Harriett Shumaker, Fairview Park, OH, Arvella (Carl) Schlub, Helen Joann (Fred) Fischer of TN and several nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Smith. The family will recieve friends on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Donovan, III, officiating.
